ABSTRACT

Chapter 13 deals with one type of scaffold that may be free-standing, i.e. not attached in any way to a permanent structure or by guys and anchors to the ground. Stability against wind overturning is achieved only by the self weight of the structure. The working imposed load cannot be taken into account because it may sometimes not be there. If the structure is rectangular or L-shaped, its stability in both directions must be analysed to ensure that the worst case is studied.
