ABSTRACT
From the time building began, working platforms have been necessary to provide access for the workmen and to support plant and materials. Ramps of earth are in evidence in buildings of antiquity. At some point in time, platforms made of timber members must have been introduced. Lashings are quite adequate for connecting the members. This system has survived for many thousands of years.
