ABSTRACT
Foundations in scaffolding have two critical differences from building foundations. They are (a) on the surface, and (b) not calculated. Empirical rules must be applied. Fortunately, the tubular framework of scaffolding is relatively flexible, even when correctly braced. It can accommodate a multiplicity of small movements from one cause or another and, in particular, from one standard settling downwards on its foundation.
