ABSTRACT
The three examples of map types given in the first chapter are by no means comprehensive, but should be enough to serve as illustrations of the fundamental processes involved in using maps. It is necessary to consider what elements they have in common, and how they are specifically different. Such an analysis requires the breakdown of map use into a series of activities.
