ABSTRACT

Selection of a suitable site for development will be undertaken by the client with the help of his architect. Their search for a site of suitable potential is likely to be extensive, following up land advertisements in the local and national Press, estate agents' particulars and visits to auctions. Preliminary site investigations will be very detailed to ascertain the many physical aspects such as subsoil composition, demolition, etc., and the legal aspects which include planning permission, rights of access and preservation orders. Both physical and legal considerations are summarised in the following site investigation and information report and detailed in separate sections later in this chapter. The client's report could be available for builders' reference when invited to tender, although each builder will conduct his own site investigation to reinforce the client's information.
