ABSTRACT
W. W. E. Slights has written a book-length study of Jonson and secrecy, Ben Jonson and the Art of Secrecy (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1994). Robert C. Evans has interestingly revived the very early suggestion that Volpone was based on the founder of Charterhouse in 'Thomas Sutton: Ben Jonson's Volpone?', Philological Quarterly, 68 (1989), pp. 295-313.
