ABSTRACT
The actual end of European empires in Africa, when it came, proved to be a complex and varying process. Each country added its own chapter to this story of decolonisation, an ugly but useful term which now came into use. Often these chapters were fruitful; almost as often they were also painful. All of them are important in the history of modern Africa, and they are reviewed in detail in this Part Three.
