ABSTRACT

European expansionism aims were primarily economic, demographic, political and ideological. It considers whether these goals were actually achieved. This chapter shows that did colonialism give the colonialists what they were looking for; did imperialism bring the economic benefits expected of it; and what exactly were the consequences of it all for the colonized peoples and territories; Nowadays the one that attracts the most attention - it can be said that the differences between the various countries, regions and eras make it impossible to provide one simple answer. The slave trade was not only immoral by today's standards, but it also had an undeniably negative effect on the demography of West Africa, while slavery in the New World had enduring or at least long-lasting negative effects on the slaves and their descendants. In the nineteenth century, too, when the slave trade was prohibited, various forms of exploitation appeared that were coupled with excessive violence.
