ABSTRACT
Timber is classified as either ‘hardwood’ or ‘softwood’. Hardwood is obtained from broad-leaved, mainly deciduous trees, whilst softwood is obtained from coniferous, mainly evergreen trees. Most of the hardwoods are denser and stronger than most of the softwoods.
