Major m inisterial resignations and dism issals Viscount Morley (Lord President o f the Council) and Joh n Burns (President of the Local Governm ent Board) resigned over decision to enter war. Sir Joh n Simon (Home Secretary) resigned in protest against introduction of conscription. Augustine Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) re signed following the Easter Rising in Dublin. A rthur H enderson (Member of the W ar Cabinet) was forced to resign for supporting Labour’s atten dance at proposed Stockholm conference of socialist parties to discuss peace plans. Christopher Addison (Minister without Portfolio) resigned over governm ent’s abandonm ent of social reform . Edward Montagu (India Secretary) resigned in p ro test against governm ent’s pro-Greek, anti-Turkish policy. Viscount Cecil (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster) resigned over government’s failure to pursue dis armament.
