ABSTRACT

The impact of Napoleon on France and on Europe was immediate and enduring. He dominated his age as his armies dominated the continent; and no European country was untouched, or unchanged, by the events of these turbulent years. The departments of Napoleon's empire: the French departments, departments annexed during the revolutionary wars, departments annexed in Italian and Swiss lands, departments annexed in Dutch and German lands, departments of the kingdom of Italy, and departments of the kingdom of Westphalia. Tarn-et-Garonne is a department in the southwest of France. Haut-Rhin is a department in the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region of France, named after the Rhine River. Puy-de-Dome is a department in the centre of France named after the famous dormant volcano. Alpes-Maritimes is a department of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region in the extreme southeast corner of France. The inhabitants of the department are called Maralpins, but are usually referred as Azureens.
