ABSTRACT
The processes which tend to eliminate or reduce the use of blinky and blue-john and to replace clabber with the more modish yogurt have developed away from the rural areas where the terms of the farm and simple home life were appropriate. The regional patterns most easily demonstrated by rural terminology have become a lesser factor in American English. If the relative urbanization cannot be identified with certainty as the cause, it is quite clearly a correlate.
