ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the collection, ordering and filing of data and data gather. It considers aspects of the use of data to generate knowledge of people and events. The field notebooks not models of tidiness, the source rely upon and return to the first appearance of own primary data. Supplementary research, one selects and accumulates many materials and objects beside written notes and data sets. It takes photographs part of search and documentation process, and many films, transparencies and prints. Handling of photographs, to clear the overall range of photographic material accumulates. The collection of research material is a selected set of maps. Mine contains old and contemporary editions of folding maps, at various scales ranging in imperial or metric equivalent from inch to the mile to 25 inch. The folding maps stacked in plastic boxes. Local history research, what seek knowledge; seek via the acquisition of information. The collection of over 300 maps, though, not a matter.
