ABSTRACT

Many changes have encouraged movements on the international scale since the mid twentieth century. Technological advances have provided us with high-capacity jet airliners, ships which carry over half a million tonnes of crude oil over thousands of kilometres, and the capability of handling freight in more economic ways. Movements at the global scale are now within the reach of ever-increasing numbers of people and commercial enterprises, and the flows of tourist and business passengers and of raw materials and manufactured goods by sea and air have created a demand for more efficient terminal handling facilities.
