ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the application journey that candidates take along the road to professionalization. It considers some of the entry routes candidates negotiate along this journey. Some examples of the range of university courses on offer are then provided in order to demonstrate the range of entry criteria demanded. As a vital part of this process involves the selection of the best university for one, an open day checklist is provided for use during the various visits that one make to university campuses throughout the United Kingdom (UK). Although the content of nursing and midwifery courses has to follow a similar format determined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the delivery of that content, the learning and teaching strategies, and the quality of the student experiences all vary enormously. Make every effort to visit universities during dedicated open/taster events as these are an important step towards selecting the institution that best serves ones individual learning needs.
