ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on application and selection, the goal that you have been working towards for months, or even years. The chapter ensures that one have confidently chosen the right career path before applying. All applications to nursing and midwifery programmes are made via Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) each year during a predetermined application cycle that runs from mid-September to mid-January. Admissions tutors only have limited places to offer and are therefore looking for applicants who have a very good understanding of their nursing field of practice, or midwifery. Selection days are highly stressful for candidates - they require planning, preparation and practice. Applicants, who have a disability, or past caution/conviction, are not automatically excluded from the professions. Systems are in place to help support the needs of such candidates, early disclosure is key to accessing this support and therefore maximizing the likelihood of success.
