ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the byelaws related to penalties and defence for person charged with an offence. According to byelaw 99, any person contravening any of these byelaws shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £400 in respect of each offence; and £40 in respect of each continuing offence, for each day during which the offence continues after conviction. Byelaw 100 shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence to show that he took all reasonable steps and exercised due diligence to avoid commission of that offence; or he had a reasonable excuse for his act or failure to act.
