ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses byelaws related to provision and location of stopvalves. Byelaws 61, 62 and 63 detail stopvalves that must be provided in installations. The principle on which these byelaws is based is that if any occupiers are suffering damage or nuisance to their property due to a leaking or defective fitting whether on their own or on a common pipe they should have access to a stopvalve which controls the supply to that fitting. Byelaw 64 will be deemed to be satisfied if every supply stopvalve is of an appropriate pressure rating for the supply pipe on which it is fitted and it complies with the British Standard Specifications. Byelaw 65 sets out the basic requirement that a supply pipe must be capable of being drained. The requirements of byelaw 66 would be satisfied if any draining tap complies with British Standard 2879.
