ABSTRACT

Research projects of any sort do put big demands on the researcher and the nature of research often means that there may be times when plans do not develop as desired. All newcomers to research should be aware of the factors that might impinge on research so that they use time and energy well throughout the study and recognise that there will be times of despondency as well as times of satisfaction when all appears to be going to plan. This chapter outlines some of the practical issues that should be considered when planning a research project and considers the following:

Supervisor/mentor support.

Research experience.

Planning time.

Funding research.

Ethical issues.

Access.
