ABSTRACT

Complex care involves the care of clients or patients that need specialised, multifaceted and

difficult procedures and care. This term is usually used to define the care within the differ-

ent hospital departments or units such as emergency, perioperative, intensive care unit

(ICU), coronary care unit (CCU) and high dependency unit (HDU). Consequently, this chapter

adds on to just about everything covered in Part 1 of this book. This includes people’s values

and beliefs, ethical issues and problems, clients’ or patients’ rights and protecting the vul-

nerable, working in a team, pain and resuscitation, illness and loss, and decision-making.
