ABSTRACT
There are a number of different online means of obtaining access to materials dealing with any subject area: through a general subject directory, by way of a specialist subject directory/gateway, through embedded links on a document that you have downloaded, and by interrogating a search engine database. The latter, search engine databases, come in varying formats, from those that index the Web more or less indiscriminately to those that target particular subject areas. These methods, singly or combined, for reasons advanced earlier, and others, will not net all resources relevant to a particular discipline. Moreover, as every reader is aware, discipline boundaries are porous at best.
