First publ. DP, 28 May 1864 ; repr. DP2, 1865, 1872, 1888. The MS, part of the printer’s copy for DP, is at Morgan. It is a very clean copy, though in a somewhat larger and looser hand than usual with B. There are a few copying errors and cancelled readings, and two verbal variants from 1864; only two minor changes in wording were made in subsequent editions.
