ABSTRACT

Occasionally during the healing process, overgranulation (also known as hypergranulation), an excessive amount of granulating tissue, grows above skin level. This tissue will then not progress towards wound healing and the wound bed will not improve. Healthy granulation tissue is pink in colour and is an indicator of healing whereas unhealthy granulation is dark red in colour, often bleeds on contact (Hampton 2007) and may sometimes be an indication of infection.
