ABSTRACT
Among the more fundamental outcomes produced by the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States and its subsequent global war on terror is the uncertain fate of the Asian balance of power system. Conventional strategic thinking (both in Asia and the West) has long credited Asia's balance of power system with the maintenance of the region's peace and prosperity.
