ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Arabic grammar paradigm and the meaning and morphology of words stem from: roots, patterns which include: foms, conjugation, syntax. It presents that how words are formed, how Arabic words are derived by root radicals and pattern systems. A root assigns the core meaning to the word and may be bound to patterns of letters and diacritics to generate words with different meanings and functions within a sentence. Roots contain the core meaning and are the primary entries in the Arabic dictionary. Patterns carry information and specific features. The pattern may be combined with the inherent meaning in a root to generate nouns and verbs. The chapter gives example to derive a noun, verb as well as how the words interact with syntax: Case or mood markings affix to a word and assign to the word its functions in a sentence or context.
