ABSTRACT

All the planning, storyboarding, and pre-visualization that occur during preproduction are translated into a finished product during production by the camera. The camera is the tool through which the director realizes the script. The use of this tool is limited only by the imagination of the filmmaker. Technology moves quickly. It is an extremely complex arena, and this is a book about the process of making a film. The process is time tested and has not changed. What is constantly changing are the tools. Digital technology has pushed cinematography in directions that were once unimaginable when the first camcorder was introduced. The director brings weeks of work and preparation to the set. During preproduction, the director creates a plan on paper in the form of storyboards and floor plans.
