ABSTRACT

The director is intimately involved in choosing the key people around whom the crew will form. She looks for creative partners as well as people with whom she can work and communicate. The production hours are long and hard, and the director must feel confident that those around her will come through for her when needed. She must trust these crew members to execute her vision for the script. Together, the director and producer should develop a strategy for interviewing prospective crew members. After each interview, the director and producer can discuss how they felt about the candidate. Differences of opinion can be important not only in making the right choice, but also in learning about how each other views people. The best-laid plans are only as good as the talented people who carry them out.
