ABSTRACT

The director is the most important point of contact for the actor. This vital relationship is initiated during the casting process and then developed and nourished during the rehearsal period. It has often been said that cast properly, and “you are 80 percent there.” Find the right actors, and you create a solid foundation on which to bring your script to life. The rehearsal period is equally important, especially for the beginning filmmaker. It is the time to establish a creative partnership with each actor individually and with the cast as a whole. Having chosen the right actors, she must then oversee the transition from the actors playing the roles to becoming the characters themselves. The responsibility of finding the right actor to bring your story to life can weigh heavily on everyone involved especially the director and, most especially, the beginning director.
