We have studied the light side extensively. The confluence of unity level and phase produces the maximum brightening (+6 dB). Increasing level offset (isolation) reduces the intensity gradually. By contrast (literally), the confluence of unity level and antiphase (180°) produces the maximum darkening (-inf dB). Increasing level offset (isolation) also reduces the intensity of effect, but this time it’s not gradual. Small amounts of isolation strongly reduce the cancellation effect. Phase offset has similarly asymmetric effects on light and dark. Rising offset on the light side causes gradual dimming. The power of darkness diminishes rapidly with even small offsets. Perfect discipline of level and phase is required to maintain the dark side. Now we know why Darth Vader was such a hard ass.
