ABSTRACT

This is not a postdramatic stage direction, but simply a list of individual impressions of artistic works by students of the department for Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft, which could be seen in the past few months during the presentation of their scenic projects and the festival ‘Theatermaschine 2010’. The list is pretty arbitrary. And too short for what has recently been developed. And even with the best will in the world it won’t become a story. Unless we want to recount the history of the end of the ‘Gießener Schule’, assuming that this term ever referred to a uniform aesthetic and that the ‘Gießen school’ ever existed at all. When looking at and listening to the range of artistic work made in Gießen, it quickly becomes evident that between trash and contemporary music, between narration and visual arts, between installations and performances, between stillness and dance, pretty much anything is possible. Even writing and staging dramatic literature, which has fallen somewhat out of Gießen fashion.
