ABSTRACT

This is a comprehensive workbook for actors not only addresses the methods and processes by which to go about learning an accent, but also looks in detail at each example. The workbook covers the key characteristics and profiles of a wide range of African accents of English. Its unique Full breakdowns of each accent cover: a directory of research materials including documentaries, plays, films and online resources, and key characteristics such as melody, stress, pace and pitch, and descriptions of physical articulation in the tongue, lips, jaw, palate and pharynx. This chapter discusses consonant sound shifts. The actors can begin to fold melody and rhythm with the sound changes by speaking the sample sentences that are before each section of sound changes.
