ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Zimbabwean (Shona) Accent Vocal Posture. It provides an adjustments that enable people to integrate the accent through physical transformation rather than solely relying on sound shifts. The focus of articulation should move toward the front-middle of the hard palate. The tongue is slightly pitched forward with the front of the tongue lightly resting against the back of the lower front teeth. The blade of the tongue is wide. The middle of the tongue is very active in vowel articulation. There is an easy fullness in the lips which actively round for the rounded vowels. The jaw should be half closed. The soft palate is lifted and slightly domed. The pharynx is narrowed, creating a slight pharyngeal twang.
