ABSTRACT
Following decades of neglect and decline, many US cities have undergone a dramatic renaissance. From New York to Nashville and from Pittsburgh to Portland, many cities have engaged in innovative redevelopment strategies to adapt to a globally integrated economy and cope with transforming industries and shifting demographics. Along the way, new forms of governance and redevelopment partnerships have emerged to realign traditional power structures dominated by downtown property interests and to give voice to underrepresented communities.
