ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the work of the US Nicaraguan multimedia artist, Ricardo Miranda Zuniga, paying particular attention to the way in which his works engage with the trope of the border, of the streets and, associated with this, the representation of Mexican immigrants in the US imaginary. It illustrates how Miranda Zuniga's constant negotiation between digital media and offline localities aims to shock the viewer-player out of complacency and encourage him or her to question the sociopolitical structures underpinning the game world. The central place-based tropes under analysis continue with the main trope in the work of Fusco and Dominguez, yet also link it to other key locales. Vagamundo is the work of one of the most prolific New York based Latino artists, Ricardo Miranda Zuniga. Miranda Zuniga produces art works which involve innovative combinations of digital media, web art, computer-generated art, performance art and installations.
