ABSTRACT

This chapter explains there has been scant scholarship that traces the mechanism and processes that influence this organizational transformation. The original collective political violence transformative (CPVT) model suggested four variables and the antecedent condition of power advantage that leads guerrilla movements to transform. As suggested in the CPVT model and noted in the four case studies, human and material resource needs play a significant role in the development of guerrilla movements. One future project that can be developed from this study is to create a quantitative version of the CPVT model. The chapter examines the development of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP), Provisional Irish Republican Army and Sinn Fein (PIRA/SF), and the African National Congress and the Spear of the Nation (ANC/MK), the importance of the leadership of the guerrilla movements was discovered.
