ABSTRACT

Do non-governmental organizations (NGOs) need to be managed? Furthermore, is management in NGOs different from management in other sectors of the economy? I believe both questions solicit a positive answer. The moment a group of people comes together with the aim of achieving a common goal, some agreements need to be made about who will do what in order to achieve that common objective. As to the question if NGO management is different from management in other sectors of the economy, my answer is again yes. This is because of the scope of its activities, that is, meeting human needs as opposed to maximizing shareholder profit or providing public services such as the police, the military, legislation or socioeconomic development of a region or country, requires a different approach.
