ABSTRACT
Never forget that students tend to take us at our word. They really do believe what we tell them. If we say, "You're just not a good math student and probably never will be," then guess what? They probably never will be. The problem here is twofold: On the one hand, our negative statements are internalized by the student, and on the other hand, our negative beliefs influence our actions toward that student.
