ABSTRACT
We, as teachers, should recognize that old adages, sayings, clichés, etc. are not understood by most children. The child in this poem is taking those sayings literally just as children often take us literally. Here is a perfect chance to explain to students what it means when we say things like "The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence," or "I'll give them a piece of my mind," etc.
