The lesson here is that everything is relative. The old saying, "I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet" applies here. The fact is that no matter how bad things may seem, they could always be worse. And for someone else, they usually are. Children of all ages can relate to this poem and its meaning. Allow them to discuss ways that other people are not as fortunate as they are.
