ABSTRACT

Indonesia is currently home to more than 220 million people, which makes it the fourth largest country in the world in terms of population. This archipelago nation is made up of more than 17,000 islands (Taylor, 2003), but the majority of these islands are uninhabited. The population of Indonesia is very diverse. There are hundreds of ethnic groups speaking more than 300 different languages. There are formally six acknowledged religions: Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, and a large number of traditional beliefs (Budiman, 2009). Muslims constitute more than 88 percent of the total population, making Indonesia the largest Muslim country in the world. The distinct differences in the populations of this country in terms of cultural and religious characteristics have made it one of the most diverse countries in the world.
