ABSTRACT

It is our contention that teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members should identify critical issues in their particular school which possibly could be addressed by modifying the schedule before considering scheduling options 1 . Then, and only then, should changes in the school schedule be contemplated. Again, we stress that no one schedule is perfect or suitable for every school. In this chapter we mix and blend the various models of high school schedules being implemented throughout America. Our first combination plans apply the alternate day concept to the 4/4 semester plan, the trimester plan, and then to the 72-72-(36) plan to create instructional blocks of at least three hours, possibly for the purpose of facilitating interdisciplinary instruction.
