ABSTRACT

In this book, we have attempted to capture and describe the salient characteristics of instruction in these schools. We have struggled to do so in a manner that adequately credits the impressive efforts of educators at these schools. Nonetheless, we encourage our readers to see for themselves. Visit these or similar schools, observe their classrooms, talk with their teachers, watch their planning meetings, listen to their problem-solving discussions, and see how they interact with students. Work to build upon our descriptions of their teaching practices in ways that add texture, depth, and meaning.
