ABSTRACT

The Week in Review (TWR) is a collaborative activity in which students assess the classroom events and activities of the week. The idea of TWR is similar to that of the television program Washington Week in Review, in which several talking heads sit together, each offering his or her perspective on the significant national and international events of the week. Procedures such as TWR can go a long way toward reducing the gap between what important things the teacher thinks are being taught and what important things the students think they are learning. Students are encouraged to reflect on what they have done in the past several days and on the significance of the activities in which they have participated. The music teacher who takes some time to demonstrate the physics of music by teaching students about oscillations, sympathetic vibration, and harmonics.
