ABSTRACT
Both conventional wisdom and empirical research tell us that good teachers positively effect students’ academic progress. 1 In fact, empirical research consistently has revealed that the teacher is the dominant school-related factor influencing academic growth. 2 This chapter addresses the following questions surrounding the topic of student progress:
What does student progress mean?
What does the research say about student progress and the teacher?
What are research-based quality indicators for student progress?
How can student progress be documented?
What are rating scale options for student progress?
