ABSTRACT

The Model of Effective Professional Development (Figure 2.1, page 11) shows five puzzle pieces interacting with each other. The three main pieces, or steps, are planning, implementation, and follow-up. They are sequential, and each includes specific elements that may be customized and molded to support the goal or focus of the overall technology plan. For example, the Implementation piece must have an instructional or student achievement focus. While all the surrounding elements in that piece need to be considered, each may have a different priority or weight within the implementation process. The top and bottom pieces act as insulation and should interact with all three of the sequential center pieces. The top piece relates to the involvement of administration and faculty throughout the project. The bottom piece represents not only the existence of resources and support but also the level of interaction of these within each step of the process. These pieces will be addressed in more detail in the following chapters. It may be helpful to refer back to the model following each chapter.
