ABSTRACT

The nine-week report represents an important motivating tool for many students, but it pales by comparison with simple recognition. Student's illustrations and an opportunity for integrating writing and art. The integration, however, must complement the purpose of the writing. Recognizing student's writing by publishing it may be the single most powerful task of the writing process and unfortunately, it is the one that is most often left out of classroom routines. The responses must be written in the concise terms of writing used in your classroom mini-lessons and close activities. Once students are comfortable publishing their writing for audiences within their school, help them share their writing with the community at large. In a prominent in-school display outside your classroom, post the final drafts of all the students who met your expectations for publication. Invite two colleagues to bring a class of their students to visit the display and respond to the writing in a specifically designed routine.
