ABSTRACT
The first step for some reluctant learners is to get them to raise their hand to indicate that they'd like to participate in classroom discussions. This strategy gives the student the chance to participate secure in the knowledge that they will only be called upon if they indicate that they'd like to answer a question or provide a comment. Reluctant students often do not raise their hands or only do so when they think there is no likelihood that they'll be called upon.
