ABSTRACT

Professional writers consult editors to hone their prose, and students likewise benefit from seeking constructive criticism about their essays before submitting them for grades or other forms of review. Once an essay has been turned in, it cannot be fixed (unless the instructor offers students the opportunity to revise their work). Similarly, once an essay has been published in print, it lives forever, no matter if the author later desires to repudiate it. Given these conditions, all writers must ensure that their work represents their best efforts.
