ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a number of conceptions of leadership. This exploration is necessary because the leadership teacher must design a leadership program with a clear understanding of what it is they are trying to develop. This understanding will also facilitate the evaluative process necessary to establish whether or not the program is successful. At the completion of this chapter, you should be able to define leadership in a way that will assist you in the design of your leadership program as well as supporting you in justifying the decisions you will need to make.
