ABSTRACT
This chapter starts by providing a classification of events, and discusses the roles of events. The planning and development process for events explains how they are initiated as well as the bidding for events. The chapter reviews the trends and future prospects for leisure and business events. Leisure-oriented events often have the goal of involving members of local communities and enhancing their quality of life and well-being. The celebration of national and regional holidays and religious celebration is an important role of leisure events. The economic role of events is one of the most critical to destinations and tourist businesses, and for event organisers. Training is one of the main purposes of corporate meetings and particularly for sales staff. Leisure-oriented events provide entertainment for visitors and local residents.
